FASfacts Objectives

  • Enable communities to prevent Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD);
  • Draw national and international attention to the Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) crisis in South Africa and thereby work towards eradicating its devastating effects;
  • Contribute to lowering future wasteful financial expenditures associated with combating, containing or treating Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) within communities and families;
  • Ensure the long-term development of healthy families and communities where fewer children are born with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD);
  • Reduce the prevalence and incidence of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD), and thus also reduce the scourge of alcohol and substance abuse, the spread of HIV / AIDS and TB, and a growing incidence of domestic violence and crime;
